Apple May Resume iPad Production in India Amid Government Incentives

TapTechNews July 9th news, sources from Moneycontrol yesterday (July 8th) revealed that Apple, considering many factors such as government support, is reconsidering producing the iPad product line in India.

It is reported that the Indian government plans to introduce a brand-new incentive and support plan to promote local production of IT products, including tablets, laptops, and servers, etc.

Apple had previously planned to cooperate with BYD to produce iPads in India, but later transferred the key iPad production resources to Vietnam.

An unnamed senior Indian official said:

BYD was almost ready to build a factory for iPads in India, but getting approval is a challenge. Now the situation has changed a lot, and we are now trying to help (Apple) further expand to achieve growth in the next two or three years.

TapTechNews quoted the media report that the Indian government also hopes that Apple will produce Mac laptops and desktops in India in the next few years. The official said that Apple has shared with the government the big plan in India in the next 2-3 years:

They hope to establish a backup supply chain in India, so that more partners will come to India, and at the same time, the existing partners will also further deepen their capabilities.
