Android 15 to Improve Floating Notifications, But Compact Layout May Be Delayed

However, this problem is expected to be improved in the upcoming Android 15.

According to TapTechNews, since the Android 5.0 Lollipop system was launched, the floating notification has always existed. This kind of notification appears in the form of a floating window on the top of the screen, and users can see and interact with it immediately no matter which application they are using. In theory, the floating notification should only be used for urgent and important messages, such as messages from relatives and friends. However, when the floating notification appears on top of the full-screen application, it is extremely easy to interfere with the user experience, so it has been criticized all the time.

At present, the Android system allows users to turn off the floating notification by channel, but the operation is rather cumbersome. In addition, users can also completely disable the floating notification through ADB, but this method is too rough. Fortunately, Google is developing a more compact floating notification layout to reduce interference.

Recently, the developer Mishaal Rahman found the code about the compact floating notification in the Android 15 Beta 4 system. After some adjustments, this function was fully enabled. As shown in the picture, the floating notification using the new layout takes up significantly less space, and most of the notification content is hidden, and only the notification icon, title, and reply button are visible. Users can click the drop-down arrow to expand the notification to view the complete content.

At present, this compact floating notification has not been officially launched. Considering that Beta 4 is the last test version, this function may not appear in the initial version of Android 15, but may be launched in the subsequent quarterly update (QPR), or even postponed to Android 16. In addition, there is also a lack of a switch in the system to control whether to enable the compact layout, which can currently only be achieved by modifying the system file.
