OpenAI's Co-founder John Schulman Leaves to Join Anthropic for AI Alignment Research

Schulman stated in his farewell letter to his colleagues at OpenAI that he chose to leave in order to focus more on AI alignment research and start a new chapter in his career at Anthropic.

He emphasized that the departure is not due to insufficient support from OpenAI in alignment research, but a personal career development choice.

Nearly 9 years ago, Schulman joined OpenAI after graduating from graduate school and became a member of the founding team. This is the first and only company he has worked for. I believe that even without me, OpenAI and the team will continue to thrive.
