Tesla Recalls Cybertruck Due to Wiper and Decorative Panel Issues

Tesla is recalling its Cybertruck electric pickup trucks due to a possible defect in the single-arm windshield wipers of the model. The wiper motor of some trucks may have a defect, causing the wipers to not work properly, which could pose a safety hazard in rainy days.

This recall involves 11,688 Cybertruck electric pickup trucks, covering all Cybertruck trucks produced between November 13, 2023 and June 6, 2024. Tesla believes that only 2% of the affected vehicles have this defect. Before this recall, Tesla had already suspended customer deliveries of the model at the beginning of the month.

Tesla first discovered this potential problem in February when Tesla technicians found wiper motor failures on some Cybertruck trucks. Then Tesla engineers spent several months analyzing the 20 recovered motors and finally found the root of the problem.

Investigation found that excessive current was applied to the components during the functional test at the secondary supplier, thus damaging the motor circuit board.

Tesla said that so far, no crash, injury or death accident reports related to this problem have been received. Tesla will replace the wiper motor for the owners free of charge.

TapTechNews noticed that in addition to the wiper motor problem, Tesla also launched another recall for the loosening problem of the decorative panel on the side of the Cybertruck cargo bed. This decorative panel may have an installation problem and may loosen or fall off during driving. This recall involves 11,383 vehicles produced between November 13, 2023 and May 26, 2024. Tesla will replace or repair the decorative panel on the side of the cargo bed for these vehicles to ensure its firmness.
