With such a dazzling achievement, observing Nintendo's business philosophy becomes particularly interesting. According to Nintendo's chief game designer and representative director Shigeru Miyamoto, a million-selling game is not considered a huge success in Nintendo's eyes. However, the company only needs to create a super hit every three to five years, which is enough.

In a recent interview, Miyamoto outlined Nintendo's criteria for a blockbuster. He explained that a game selling 30 million copies meets this standard, but Nintendo doesn't expect all works to reach such a high sales volume.

Miyamoto also emphasized that just breaking even is not a good result because developing a game pours the efforts of developers and should pursue better results.

Miyamoto said, If we can have a blockbuster every three to five years, that would be enough.

TapTechNews noticed that Nintendo already has four such works on the current-generation consoles, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (61.97 million copies), Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (34.22 million copies), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (31.85 million copies), etc.

This list does not include the Pokémon series, and the games of this series can also easily break through the sales threshold of 30 million. Another blockbuster is also on the verge of emerging. The sales of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have exceeded 18 million copies and are expected to reach 30 million copies soon.
