China's First Offshore Heavy Oil Thermal Recovery Oilfield Makes Progress

TapTechNews July 20th news, China's first heavy oil thermal recovery oilfield at sea - Nanpu 35-2 Oilfield has for the first time implemented steam huff and puff operation of 6 adjusted wells using superheated steam huff and puff technology, with a daily crude oil production of 220 tons, indicating that the offshore heavy oil development technology system has been further improved.

According to the introduction, heavy oil crude has large viscosity, and it is difficult to be extracted by conventional cold production with a small oil production rate and a low recovery rate. In this regard, the industry generally solves the problem through thermal recovery technology that artificially heats to increase the fluidity of crude oil.

Public information shows that Nanpu 35-2 Oilfield is located in the Bohai Sea area and adopts large-scale steam huff and puff development. After the formation swallows high-temperature and high-pressure steam, the heavy oil is spat out from the oil production well. TapTechNews note: More than 90% of the proven petroleum geological reserves in Nanpu 35-2 Oilfield are heavy oil.

As China's first heavy oil thermal recovery oilfield at sea, Nanpu 35-2 Oilfield is committed to攻克 thermal recovery technology. Nanpu 35-2 Oilfield fully launched the first batch of superheated steam huff and puff adjusted well projects in January 2023. The project takes the principle of fast injection and fast production, and through the cross-operation of steam huff and puff and steam flooding two wells injecting at the same time, a good effect of over-production of 40 tons/day has been achieved.
