Former TikTok employees revealed that more than half of the TikTok Africa team located in South Africa and Nigeria were affected. In addition, TikTok reduced some positions of the African team in March this year.

TikTok refused to comment on any part of this matter.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, in May this year, it was said that TikTok planned to carry out significant layoffs globally and disband the global user operation team.

A senior executive who did not want to be named disclosed to foreign media: These changes (referring to the layoffs) are not a reaction to anything (referring to ByteDance being required to sell TikTok, and ByteDance officially stated that there is no plan to sell TikTok), but necessary changes made through continuous evaluation of the business.
