EU Votes on Imposing Anti-Subsidy Duty on Chinese Electric Vehicles

The statement released by the European Commission shows that in the vote, the European Commission's proposal to levy tariffs on imported pure electric vehicles from China has obtained the necessary support from EU member states.

The statement said that the EU and China continue to work hard to explore alternative solutions, which must fully comply with WTO regulations, be able to fully address the damaging subsidies identified by the Commission's investigation, and be monitorable and enforceable.

Last October 4th, the European Commission initiated an anti-subsidy investigation against imported electric vehicles from China, and began to levy a temporary anti-subsidy duty on Chinese electric vehicles on July 4th this year. On August 20th, the EU released the final draft of the anti-subsidy investigation on Chinese electric vehicles, showing that it plans to levy an anti-subsidy duty of 17% to 36.3% on Chinese electric vehicles.
