Samsung Display to Expand ITOLED lineup through cooperation with tech giants

TapTechNews August 15th news, according to the report of The Korea Times on August 14th, the CEO of Samsung Display, Choi Joo-sun, disclosed on the same day that he will expand the OLED panel lineup for IT devices by strengthening cooperation with global tech giants such as Intel and Qualcomm.

Choi Joo-sun told reporters during the Korea Display Exhibition held in the southern part of Seoul, South Korea: "We will expand to ITOLED through cooperation with various system partners such as Intel and Qualcomm, thereby continuing to enhance the differentiation of mobile OLED. We are in discussions with many customers, and OLED panels will have a synergistic effect with edge-side AI."

Choi Joo-sun emphasized that production scale, technology, and cooperation with customers are the key factors to enhancing the competitiveness of ITOLED.

Samsung Display is a major supplier of mobile OLED panels, and its products are used in Samsung Electronics' Galaxy smartphones and Apple's iPhone. For the upcoming iPhone 16 series, Samsung Display is expected to provide Apple with four different types of OLED panels.

In order to meet the growing demand, Samsung Display has been continuously expanding its production capacity and investing 4.1 trillion won (TapTechNews note: currently about 21.57 billion Chinese yuan) to build a new 8.6-generation OLED production line by 2026, which can produce 10 million notebook computer panels annually. Choi Joo-sun responded to this: "The ITOLED business has just started, and our large-scale 8.6-generation production line is about to go into operation."
