China's Fengyun-4 Batch 03 Meteorological Satellites Upgrades and Future Plans

TapTechNews June 17th, according to the news from the China Meteorological Administration, recently, the requirements for using Fengyun-4 Batch 03 meteorological satellites have passed the expert review organized by the China Meteorological Administration.

Fengyun-4 Batch 03 meteorological satellites include three satellites, D, E, and F. Based on the mature experience of Fengyun-4 Batch 02 meteorological satellites, they will orderly improve the operational observation and service capabilities in batches, carry out payload development and application innovation, and achieve broader spatial coverage, higher spatiotemporal resolution, higher observation accuracy, more elements, and more rapid remote sensing information extraction services. They will provide geostationary orbit meteorological satellite observation support for improving the accuracy of weather forecasting, carrying out climate change prediction, meteorological disaster monitoring and early warning, ecological and environmental monitoring, etc.

The meeting required the full implementation of the full-chain and positive and reverse working mechanisms for the development, operation, and application of meteorological satellites, and the full-process management of satellite development should be layered and compacted. Further strengthen scientific and technological research and engineering management; hurry to promote the project approval work and complete the feasibility study and analysis in a timely manner; promote the development work in a wall-chart combat manner, clarify the time node requirements, and refine the work process to ensure the high-quality completion of the entire process of satellite-ground development of Fengyun-4 Batch 03 meteorological satellites as scheduled.

Inquired by TapTechNews, Fengyun-4A satellite was put into operational operation on May 1, 2018, and it is the test satellite of China's second-generation geostationary orbit quantitative remote sensing meteorological satellite. Fengyun-4B satellite was successfully launched on June 3, 2021, and it is the first operational satellite of China's second-generation geostationary orbit meteorological satellite. It is mainly used in the fields of weather analysis and forecasting, environment and disaster monitoring, etc., and officially went into operational operation on December 1, 2022.
