Google Aims to Make India Export Center for Pixel Phones

TapTechNews July 6. According to a source quoted by MoneyControl on the 4th local time, Google is seeking to turn India into a "major export center" for its Pixel series phones for the European and American markets, and will soon start commercial production through Foxconn and Dixon's subsidiary PadgetElectronics.

A source said that Google has started trial production in Tamil Nadu, India, with Foxconn - and Foxconn is also a major manufacturer of Apple devices. "Google is a big brand. Dixon will add it (Google) to the customer list and share production with Foxconn through its cooperation with Compal in the second half of this year."

TapTechNews learned from the report that the basic version of the Pixel series phones will be produced by the local Indian company DixonTechnologies, and the high-end Pro version will be produced by Foxconn.

The source also added that Google will officially announce its plan "committed to entering the Indian market" in the second half of this year. Google's initial plan is to serve European customers, and in the future, it will also meet the needs of the American market through the Pixel series phones made in India. Commercial production will start in September, and if the production is stable, the export business will be carried out.

Another source revealed that since the demand for Pixel smartphones in the local Indian market is very low, Google plans to take advantage of the preferential policies of the PLI (Production Linked Incentive Program) to export most of the locally produced devices from Foxconn and Dixon's factories.
