There is also speculation that this may be related to specific market regulations. For example, Singapore recently launched a Model 3 RWD version with a 110-kilowatt configuration, seemingly to meet the local exemption policy for the maximum power output of electric vehicles below 110 kilowatts.

TapTechNews noted that Tesla had also hinted at the possibility of providing paid range upgrades previously. Earlier this month, after Elon Musk launched a new long-range rear-wheel-drive version of Model Y to replace the previous standard range version, he hinted at a future software-limited range upgrade plan. Musk said that this upgrade, which costs about $1,500 to $2,000, can provide an additional 40 to 60 miles of range, bringing some models to the level of the new long-range version.
