Haizhu Bay Tunnel in Guangzhou Achieves Double-Line Breakthrough

TapTechNews July 15th news, according to CCTV News report, this morning (July 15th), the cutter head of the super-large diameter shield machine successfully arrived at the receiving shaft, and thus, the Haizhu Bay Tunnel achieved double-line breakthrough.

The Haizhu Bay Tunnel project plans to be completed and opened to traffic in 2025. At that time, the driving time from the central urban area of Guangzhou to Guangzhou South Railway Station can be shortened to about 15 minutes, which will further improve the hard connection level of infrastructure in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

According to TapTechNews' inquiry, the Haizhu Bay Tunnel project spans across Haizhu District and Panyu District in Guangzhou City, adopting the construction standard of a urban expressway with two-way six lanes and a designed speed of 60 kilometers per hour. It is the first super-large diameter municipal shield tunnel in the Pearl River Basin, with a total length of 4.35 kilometers.

The main shield tunnel of the Haizhu Bay Tunnel has an excavation diameter of about 15 meters, and there are 6 transverse connecting passages set within the 2102-meter shield section.
