TapTechNews noticed that in addition to the layoffs, Bungie also transferred 155 employees to other departments of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Coupled with the 100 people laid off last October, Bungie has lost about 40% of its employees in the past 12 months. Before the layoff last year, Bungie had approximately 1,200 employees.

It is worth noting that at the same time as the layoff news was announced, Bungie announced that it is developing an action game set in a brand-new science fantasy universe. The company will cooperate with Sony Interactive Entertainment to establish a new studio to continue the development of this project.

Parsons acknowledged that Bungie expanded too quickly, and the leadership team was spread too thin among multiple projects, resulting in problems such as the decline in the quality of Destiny 2: Lightfall and the delay of the new work Marathon. He said that the company's financial situation is not good and had to make difficult decisions.

Nevertheless, Bungie will still continue to develop Destiny 2 and Marathon, and promised to bring better game experiences to players. Parsons said, We still have more than 850 team members building Destiny and Marathon, and we will continue to create wonderful experiences that exceed players' expectations.
