India to Mandate USB-C Ports for Smartphones, May Follow EU Example_0

TapTechNews reported in December 2022 that India is planning to follow up on the EU's USB-C restrictions and plans to mandate that mobile phones sold in the country must have USB-C ports starting next year.

The latest news says that the Indian authorities will issue guiding recommendations, clearly requiring mobile phone manufacturers to replace the micro-USB ports on their smartphones by June next year, but this administrative order will not mandatorily require devices such as wearable devices or wireless audio speakers to also adopt USB-C ports.

Entry-level mobile phones in India have already gradually begun to phase out the micro-USB port, but in smartphones below 10,000 rupees, there are still quite a number of mobile phone models still using the micro-USB port, and switching to the USB-C port may increase the cost by several hundred rupees.
