The "Polar" icebreaking survey ship delivered today belongs to the North Sea Bureau of the Ministry of Natural Resources and is China's new-generation icebreaking research ship independently designed and built by CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International.

In terms of detailed parameter information, the "Polar" has a total length of 89.95 meters, a molded width of 17.8 meters, a designed speed of 15 knots per hour, which can meet the requirements of unlimited navigation area navigation, with a total tonnage of 4600 tons, a续航力 of 14000 nautical miles, and one replenishment can guarantee all 60 people on board to live at sea for 80 days.

According to Cai Ruimou, the deputy chief engineer of CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International and the chief designer of the "Polar", the ship can navigate in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea in winter to break ice and conduct ice area marine environment monitoring, seawater measurement and also take into account ice area rescue, and in summer it can conduct polar and deep sea investigations.

After the delivery of this ship, it will mainly serve the comprehensive investigation and observation research tasks of the Polar Ocean, sea ice, atmosphere and other environments, have the ability to comprehensively observe and sample the marine environment, and help improve China's marine disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities.
