China's 'Qi Jiang No. 2' Humanoid Robot Debuts with Enhanced Capabilities

TapTechNews September 24th news, the China Intelligent Robot Ecology Conference and the establishment conference of the Intelligent Decision-making Special Committee of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence were held in Hefei, Anhui on the morning of September 8th. At the meeting, the self-developed humanoid robot Qi Jiang No. 2 of the Jianghuai Frontier Technology Collaborative Innovation Center made its debut.

Qi Jiang No. 2 is 5.9 feet tall and weighs 132 pounds. It has 38 degrees of freedom throughout its body and is equipped with multiple visual perception sensors, high-precision inertial measurement units, and high-precision six-dimensional force sensors. TapTechNews has not found any other relevant information for the time being.

According to the official introduction, compared to Qi Jiang No. 1 which debuted on July 19th this year, Qi Jiang No. 2 has achieved improvements in performance in terms of intelligent brain, agile cerebellum and strong limbs.

In terms of the brain, autonomous decision-making and multi-modal interaction are achieved based on the embodied hierarchical framework; in terms of the cerebellum, the body's agile control is achieved through the self-developed strong computing power and strong real-time embodied motion controller; in terms of the limbs, the movement ability in unstructured environments and the fine and dexterous operation ability of objects have been improved.

Liu Houde, deputy director of the Jianghuai Frontier Technology Collaborative Innovation Center and a professor at Tsinghua University, said that the 38 degrees of freedom of the robot are equivalent to 38 movable joints of the human body. Combined with multiple visual perception sensors, high-precision inertial measurement units and high-precision six-dimensional force sensors, it can complete the basic actions that human limbs can do, as well as fine actions such as folding clothes, opening bottles and pouring water, and wiping plates. In addition, it can also walk normally on bumpy roads. Not only that, it also has the thinking and decision-making functions such as intelligent identification of users and safe use of authorized users.

It can be seen from the video displayed by the official that the柔顺度 (smoothness) of the robot's本体运动 (body movement) of Qi Jiang No. 2 has been improved, and the walking ability is greatly enhanced compared to Qi Jiang No. 1, and the dexterous hand can realize the operation of flexible items, reflecting the improvement of the accuracy of motion control.

Liu Houde said that in the future, this kind of humanoid robot can adapt to industrial production and elderly care service scenarios. It can be both a hardworking machine worker and a caring and efficient machine nanny humanoid robot.
