SK Hynix's Plan to Revolutionize HBM4E Memory

TapTechNews on May 29th reported that SK Hynix plans to integrate more functions in the HBM4E memory, thus pushing the HBM industry to a new height.

SK Hynix is actively exploring the HBM4E memory and attempting to launch an HBM type that can integrate multiple functions such as computing, cache, and network memory, further improving energy efficiency and signal transmission speed.

TapTechNews cited the Korean media ETNews report that the scheme is still at the concept stage for now, but SK Hynix has started to design relevant IP and is moving towards this goal.

SK Hynix plans to integrate the memory controller on the HBM, and the memory controller is placed on the base chip of its HBM structure, giving the seventh-generation HBM4E memory new computing options and laying the foundation for multi-purpose HBM.

This approach can certainly improve performance and meet the diverse development needs of HBM in the future, but it deviates from the traditional practice of the industry to handle HBM and semiconductor chips in different ways.

SK Hynix plans that the packaging will become a whole, which can not only ensure a faster transmission speed because the structural gap will be greatly reduced, but also bring higher energy efficiency.
