TapTechNews July 31st news, on July 26th, GAC Motor Co., Ltd. underwent an industrial and commercial change, and the enterprise name was changed to GAC Trumpchi Automobile Co., Ltd.. In response to this, relevant people from GAC told China Business News that: The purpose of this move is to be closer to the brand name.
TapTechNews learned from publicly available information that GAC Motor Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of GAC Group and was established in July 2008. Previously, it mainly produced models under the brand name GAC Trumpchi.
It is worth noting that GAC once formulated a big independent strategy including GAC Trumpchi, GAC Changfeng, GAC Zhongxing and GAC Gio, but later only the Trumpchi brand achieved success. Gio and Zhongxing failed to progress and finally stopped production and sales, and GAC Changfeng also chose to delist in 2012.
In March 2016, GAC Group issued an announcement agreeing that its subsidiary Guangzhou Automobile Group Passenger Car Co. would acquire 49% of the equity of GAC Gio (Gio Group was jointly established with GAC Group in 2010). In 2019, Guangzhou Automobile Group Passenger Car Co. was renamed GAC Motor Co., Ltd.
GAC Zhongxing is a joint venture established by GAC Motor and Zhongxing Automobile in Yichang in 2013. Zhongxing Automobile holds a 60% stake and later announced a reorganization in April 2017, and the Yichang production base layout for 5 years can finally only serve GAC Trumpchi.
