Nintendo Switch Updates and Twitter Linkage Cancellation

TapTechNews June 11th. Nintendo today pushed the 18.1.0 firmware update for the Switch console. This update removed the function of users directly sharing game screenshots to the X platform (Twitter), and also could no longer send requests to X platform friends through the friend suggestion function. In addition, the sharing function of the plaza signboard that players drew by themselves in the game Splatoon 3 was also removed.

It is known that the main reason why Nintendo cancelled the Twitter linkage function is that Elon Musk changed the API of the X platform to a paid one. With Nintendo's exit, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, the three major console manufacturers have all stopped the native sharing function on the X platform.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, in response to Nintendo's exit, the X platform said on May 10th:

The game community is one of the largest and most active communities on our platform, and we are committed to enhancing and supporting game-related functions. Nintendo plans to stop sharing content from Nintendo Switch to X. From now on, users need to download the Switch game media to their smartphones and then share it locally on the X platform.

Our partnership with Nintendo remains strong and we are working together to ensure a smooth transition for all users. We will continue to work with our partners to bring new and exciting experiences to the global game community.
