Apple to Unveil AI Features at WWDC2024, Integrating with OpenAI

TapTechNews, Jun 7th. Apple will hold the WWDC2024 Developer Conference in the early morning of Jun 11th and introduce the long-awaited AI features for Apple fans.

Now, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman stated that Apple's AI feature has been officially named Apple Intelligence, which obviously has the same abbreviation, AI, as Artificial Intelligence. Gurman said that the AI feature will account for about half of the content in Apple's WWDC keynote speech, showing how much Apple attaches importance to it.

If there are no surprises, these AI features will be applied to systems such as iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15. Of course, these features are optional, and users won't be forced to use them if they don't want to.

Based on previous revelations, due to the high hardware requirements of the AI feature, users may need to have iPhones with the A17Pro, such as the iPhone 15Pro and above models to use it, and of course, it also includes the four iPhone 16 series models released this year. For iPad or Mac users, at least the M1 chip is required to experience the various capabilities of the AI.

It is worth noting that in addition to Apple's own technology, these AI features will also apply some technologies from OpenAI. It is expected that Apple will also cooperate with OpenAI to provide a chatbot similar to ChatGPT.

According to Gurman, Apple Intelligence will be responsible for handling basic AI tasks and will operate locally on the device without relying on cloud servers. However, it is not yet clear what he means by basic tasks, but it is said that if Apple Intelligence judges that it cannot be processed locally on the device, it will also request Apple's servers for processing.
