Samsung Increases Mobile Phone Production in Mainland China

According to TapTechNews on May 26, as reported by the Korean media Elec, Samsung is currently increasing the mobile phone production in Mainland China, raising the output of JDM (jointly developed, designed, and manufactured) products from 44 million units to 67 million units. At the same time, it is also raising the global mobile phone production target from the originally planned 253 million units to 270 million units, which means that 25% of the relevant production targets are made in Mainland China.

In addition to relying more and more on manufacturers in Mainland China, Samsung is also cooperating with manufacturers in Southeast Asia. Foreign media disclosed that Samsung plans to outsource the 28 million mobile phone manufacturing business to factories in Vietnam.

TapTechNews noted that Samsung started to outsource part of the smart phone production business since 2019 to reduce the manufacturing/transportation price, but Samsung usually only relies on this production strategy to manufacture mid-to-low-end mobile phones.

Also referring to the previous report, the number of smart phones and tablets produced by Samsung in the first quarter of 2024 exceeded its target at the beginning of the year by 22%. As of March, the company has produced a total of 64.5 million smart phones and tablets this year.
