TapTechNews July 16th news, Shanghai has been included in the list of first-tier cities allowing the use of driverless taxis, and four enterprises including Baidu, SAIC SIC Intelligence, Pony.ai, and AutoX have obtained the demonstration application license of driverless intelligent connected vehicles in Shanghai at the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in early July.

Xinhua News Agency and Shanghai Radio and Television Station found that currently, the first batch of driverless taxis in Shanghai have been in place in Lingang, and it is expected to start the field test of driverless intelligent connected vehicles for ordinary citizens within the next week at the earliest, and it is free throughout the test period.

TapTechNews learned that Shanghai officially released the demonstration application license of driverless intelligent connected vehicles on July 4th, and it has been about half a month so far.

According to the introduction of the testing enterprises, it is expected that initially there will be 5 vehicles put into public testing, and there will be new cars following up later, and the models will also increase, and the transport capacity will be adjusted flexibly according to the actual performance after the test.

Public information shows that currently, the mileage of open autonomous driving test roads in Shanghai has exceeded 1243 miles (2000 kilometers), and the number of roads has exceeded 1000. However, currently, the driverless taxis are still in the stage of demonstration operation rather than fully unmanned commercial operation, so there are still safety officers.
