OpenAI Releases Upgraded ChatGPT with Real-time Voice Functionality and Faster Speed

TapTechNews May 14th news, OpenAI held an online event this morning, announcing a series of updates to ChatGPT, including an upgraded version of the large language model GPT-4o, which features enhanced real-time voice capabilities and faster operation speed.

It is well known that OpenAI has a close relationship with Microsoft, which has invested over $10 billion USD (approximately 72.4 billion RMB) and has been using OpenAI's technology in its own Copilot service. However, at this event, OpenAI first released the macOS version of ChatGPT app, with the Windows version set to be launched later this year. In response, OpenAI's CTO Mira Murati explained, We're just prioritizing where our users are.

OpenAI stated that in terms of desktop operating systems, although Windows leads the PC market share, the majority of their users use Mac. Windows users can still access the ChatGPT web version through a browser, but the web version is obviously not as good as the native app.

It is worth noting that OpenAI engineer Javi revealed that the company is hiring Windows engineers, perhaps to develop a native ChatGPT app for Windows.

Although Windows already has its own Copilot service, which uses OpenAI's GPT technology, Copilot and ChatGPT are not exactly the same product. Microsoft can control the user experience of GPT in Copilot. More importantly, ChatGPT can get access to OpenAI's new technologies in advance. Therefore, the native ChatGPT app for Windows can allow users to enjoy these technological advances faster, without having to wait for Microsoft to integrate them into Copilot.

Next week, Microsoft will host its annual Build developer conference where artificial intelligence will be a key topic. Microsoft is likely to announce support for GPT-4o in Copilot at that time.
