DDR4 Memory Expected to Rise 30% in the Second Half of the Year

TapTechNews May 31 - According to Taiwan media 'Commercial Times', Chen Li-bai, chairman of storage module company ADATA, said at the press conference before Computex Taipei 2024 that DDR4 memory is expected to increase by 30% in price in the second half of the year.

Chen Li-bai claimed that the overall future trend of DRAM memory is optimistic. Among them, the contract price is relatively stable, but the spot price has been slightly weak recently, and there is still upward potential for DRAM memory prices in the second half of the year.

Specifically, due to the small increase of DDR4 memory in the previous period, DDR4 will have a wave of catch-up increase in the second half of the year, and the overall increase is expected to reach 30%; while the demand for DDR5 is generally good, and the price trend is healthy.

In 2025, AIPC and AI phones will truly reach significant volumes, driving the demand for DRAM in terminal devices to rise. Both DDR5 and DDR4 still have some upward potential, and the increase of DDR4 is expected to be slightly larger.

Recently, the NAND flash memory production capacity of major original factories has gradually recovered. Chen Li-bai believes that if the suppliers cannot be restrained in expanding production, the price increase trend of NAND flash memory will be suppressed.

TapTechNews learned from another Taiwan media 'Economic Daily' that Chen Li-bai also mentioned that from chip manufacturing to data centers, the upstream and downstream of the AI industry are all 'power hogs'. The Taiwan authorities should carefully consider the retirement plan of nuclear power plants to ensure that the development of the future technology industry will not be limited by power shortages.
