Shanghai Issues First Batch of Licenses for Driverless Intelligent Connected Vehicle Demonstration Application

TapTechNews July 7th, according to the news of 'Pudong Release', at the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, Shanghai issued the first batch of demonstration application licenses for driverless intelligent connected vehicles. Four certified companies can realize fully unmanned manned vehicle applications on some sections in Pudong, and citizens can book to ride these driverless cars through the corresponding software.

TapTechNews learned that currently, all unmanned manned vehicles at the demonstration application stage are free to experience. After completing at least 5000 kilometers of demonstration application of a single vehicle and verifying the safety and reliability of the vehicle operation system and manned operation, the relevant departments will conduct a final assessment of these enterprises and vehicles. If they pass the assessment, these enterprises can conduct commercial operations of self-driving vehicles in the designated area.

The four certified enterprises are Sekk Intelligent Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Baidu Zhixing Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Shanghai Guodong Technology Co., Ltd. (AutoX Antu), and Xiaoma Yixing Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

Taking AutoX Antu as an example, users log in to the same-named mobile software of this enterprise in Jinqiao, and freely choose any destination in this area, click the 'Call Unmanned Car' button. After a short while, an unmanned car answers. Soon after, the vehicle automatically drives to the starting point of the trip. After getting on the car, enter the last four digits of the caller's mobile phone, and the vehicle starts immediately.
