However, as the Nokia brand gradually withdraws from the mobile phone market again, HMD Global today announced the termination of its Circular Subscription Service, and consumers participating in the subscription will retain full ownership of their devices as of August 8, 2024.

In this regard, HMD Global released a statement, claiming that the repairable design concept they adopted in mobile phones has replaced the Circular Subscription Service. The company also said that they will ensure that three out of every four smart devices sold in Europe will be repairable by the end of this year. TapTechNews sorted out the main information as follows:

Our Circular Subscription model was a bold experiment and also demonstrated our commitment to exploring new services and sustainability paths.

The Circular Subscription model service has been running for nearly two years in the UK and Germany, and we have gained some valuable insights during this period. Obviously, although the concept of device subscription has resonated with many people, this model does not fully conform to the different preferences and lifestyles of our diverse customer base.

Our vision goes beyond subscription; we are reimagining the entire lifecycle of our devices. From sustainable manufacturing practices to seamless repair services, from extending the life of devices to simplifying the replacement process - every aspect is being carefully considered.

Customers prefer our self-repairable devices. Since our first repairable smart phone took its place on the list of the best innovations in Time magazine in 2023, we have been maintaining this goal. Now we have three repairable HMD smart phones, and more are being launched. We are committed to ensuring that by the end of 2024, three out of every four smart devices we sell in Europe will be repairable.
