New Ford Capri A Stylish Electric Crossover with a Rich Heritage

The new Ford Capri has been released. Although it is called a coupe SUV, it looks more like a high-chassis hatchback and is far from the classic Capri two-door coupe.
From the side, the new Ford Capri EV is more reminiscent of the Polestar 2 rather than a coupe SUV. The direct competitor, the BMW iX2, has a more coupe SUV-style appearance and is more aggressive. Nevertheless, the design of Capri is still unique in the field of new energy vehicles.
Capri is more famous in the UK and other parts of Europe. In the 1960s and 1970s, it played a role similar to the American Mustang. As a two-door coupe with a stylish fastback shape, strong performance and racing sports pedigree, this car is deeply loved by young buyers. Even today, Capri is still remembered by many car enthusiasts, so its return in a new look is of great significance.
Ford says that the new Capri incorporates many design elements that pay tribute to the classic two-door model produced from 1968 to 1986. The headlight shape and faux-grille design of the new car are reminiscent of the Mark 2 Capri, and the greatest similarity lies in its fastback rear and almost rectangular taillight group.
The new car is 4634 millimeters long, about 8 centimeters shorter than the Mustang Mach-E. The wheel sizes range from 19 to 21 inches, and the selectable body colors are said to draw inspiration from the classic Capri's color palette, especially the eye-catching yellow paint in the picture.
Lifting the large-sized hatchback tailgate, you can see the 570-liter trunk, which can be expanded to 1510 liters when the rear seats are folded down.
Capri is based on the Volkswagen MEB platform, so it is closely related to models like the ID.4. The base version has a 286-horsepower motor on the rear axle, and the 0-60 mph acceleration time is 6.4 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 70 mph. The 77 kWh battery is said to have a range (WLTP) of up to 389 miles.
A more powerful dual-motor version also has a motor on the front axle, increasing the combined power to 340 horsepower, reducing the 0-60 mph acceleration time to 5.3 seconds, and the top speed remains the same. The car is equipped with a slightly larger 79 kWh battery, and the WLTP range is 368 miles. The rear-wheel drive version supports 135 kW DC fast charging, and it takes 28 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. The dual-motor version supports a higher-power 185 kW fast charging, and it takes 26 minutes to fully charge the same amount. Both versions come standard with an 11 kW AC charger.
Capri offers a variety of optional configurations, such as a heat pump air conditioner, an upgraded front seat certified by the German AGR for spinal health, and a panoramic glass roof. In terms of safety, systems such as intersection alerts, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, collision assistance, and lane-keeping assistance are all standard. Optional configurations include a 360-degree surround camera system, lane change assist, and a head-up display.
The new Ford Capri will be exclusively produced for the European market at Ford's Cologne plant, which has been upgraded with a $2 billion investment. The starting price of the rear-wheel drive version is €551,950 (TapTechNews note: currently about 4.347 million yuan).
