GoSun Launches Electric Vehicle Solar Charging Box with Unique Design
TapTechNews August 4th news, GoSun, which has been committed to solar energy applications, has recently launched a blockbuster product - an electric vehicle solar charging box. This product can not only charge the electric vehicle during driving, but also unfold when parked to cover the entire vehicle roof, greatly improving the charging efficiency.
This charging box looks similar to an ordinary roof luggage box, weighing about 70.5 pounds and only 5 inches high. The box top comes with a 200-watt solar panel, which can provide limited charging for the vehicle, equivalent to the level of a solar panel equipped with an ordinary RV.
However, the real highlight of this product is its deployable design. When parked, the charging box can be unfolded to cover the solar panels on the front and rear windshields of the vehicle, and the total output power can be increased to 1200 watts. By connecting to the vehicle's charging interface, solar energy can be directly used for charging. GoSun said that the product can remain unfolded under wind conditions of less than 31 mph, and the charging box in the closed state can withstand a maximum speed of 100 mph.
Although it cannot replace high-speed charging piles, but this charging box can increase the cruising range of the electric vehicle by about 30 miles per day under ideal conditions. In actual situations, the average daily increase in cruising range can be between 10 and 20 miles. Although the increase in cruising range is limited, considering that the charging process does not require additional operations and can be charged during parking time, it still has practical value. For users with a daily commuting distance of 10 to 30 miles, it is completely possible to meet daily charging needs only by relying on solar energy.
In addition to the charging function, this product can also provide a shading effect for the vehicle and reduce the interior temperature, further improving the vehicle's energy efficiency.
However, the price of this charging box is not cheap. The current pre-sale price is $2999 (TapTechNews note: currently about 21,566 yuan).
GoSun plans to start shipping the pre-assembled charging box in 2025, and it only takes users 20 minutes to complete the installation. The company said that this product is designed for long-term installation and use, but it can also be easily disassembled when needed.
