NVIDIA's Potential Entry into the Handheld Gaming Market with MediaTek Collaboration

TapTechNews May 15th report - Recently, news about the collaboration between NVIDIA and MediaTek has surfaced. It is reported that the two companies will jointly develop ARM architecture system-on-chip (SoC) for the field of artificial intelligence. However, another leaker has made this news even more exciting, suggesting that NVIDIA may enter the handheld gaming market and develop an SoC based on ARM architecture for this purpose.

The leaker XpeaGPU revealed that NVIDIA has shown strong interest in handheld gaming devices. He disclosed that MediaTek is developing the next generation game console SoC and will integrate NVIDIA's GPU technology.

He also mentioned that several Chinese manufacturers have expressed interest in the chip, and this SoC will be different from the other semi-custom projects that the two companies are currently collaborating on.

Previously, NVIDIA has released game hardware such as the Shield handheld console driven by Tegra SoC. At the same time, the Nintendo Switch also uses the same chip set from NVIDIA. According to TapTechNews, the home game console market is currently dominated by AMD, which provides chips for most other handheld consoles, including Steam Deck.

Rumors suggest that the upcoming Switch 2 will be based on an upgraded version of the Tegra SoC, with graphics performance close to GeForce RTX 2050. However, if NVIDIA can create a brand new SoC optimized for handheld gaming, it will be highly anticipated.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this leak is that NVIDIA chose MediaTek as a partner instead of Qualcomm, which is known for its high-end SoC. Therefore, the future development is worth looking forward to.
