Apple Rejects and Then Approves Epic Games' iOS Store Application for EU Market with Controversy

TapTechNews July 7th news, Epic Games said this Friday that Apple has rejected their application for the iOS version of the Epic Games app store for the EU market. Epic claims that the reason for the rejection is some naming conventions and button designs within the store. Epic says the naming they use is common in app stores on other platforms, and the button design is also similar to other iOS applications. Epic believes that Apple's decision violates the EU's Digital Markets Act and plans to appeal to the EU regulatory agency, the European Commission.

However, later on Friday, Epic announced that Apple suddenly changed its mind and approved the launch of the iOS version of the Epic Games store for the EU market.

But this battle doesn't seem to be over yet. According to AppleInsider, an unnamed spokesperson for Apple said, although they will temporarily allow the EU version of the iOS Epic Games store to go live, they still require Epic to modify the button design in the next version.

TapTechNews noticed that Epic Games' CEO Tim Sweeney responded by posting on his personal X account, saying, Apple's actions around the Digital Markets Act are getting more and more absurd. They are now telling reporters that this approval is only temporary and asking us to change the buttons in the next version, which will make our store less standardized and harder to use. We will fight this to the end.
