US Wyoming Mayoral Candidate Plans to Use AI-Driven Robot to Manage Government

TapTechNews August 21, it is reported by The Guardian that Victor Miller, a mayoral candidate in Cheyenne, Wyoming, plans to use an AI-driven robot to manage the local government after taking office. The robot, named Vic (Virtual Integrated Citizen), is supported by ChatGPT from OpenAI and claims to be able to process large amounts of data and make fair decisions.

According to TapTechNews, Miller, a librarian, has publicly expressed his interest in artificial intelligence and its potential applications in the government. unsurprisingly, Miller's AI ambition has faced opposition. But the mayoral candidate was recently found standing behind a podium marked 'AI for Mayor' at a library meet-up, indicating that he intends to move forward with his plan. To showcase Vic's capabilities, shortly after the speech, Miller stepped down from the podium and let the chatbot run on his Mac mini and iPad to answer the audience's questions.

Miller calls using an AI-driven robot to manage the local government a 'hybrid approach' and he also promises to donate half of his salary to a non-profit organization if he enters the mayor's office, and the other half will be used to enhance Vic's user experience by upgrading functions.

This prompts Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray to investigate Miller's candidacy to ensure that the robot does not appear on the ballot. 'Wyoming law clearly states that an AI robot cannot run for public office,' Gray said.

OpenAI then shut down Miller's account, eventually causing the robot to stop running. According to OpenAI, using AI products for campaigning violates its policies. However, there are reports that Miller has already created another account and developed a custom robot.

The Laramie County Clerk allows Victor Miller to continue running for mayor, but with a strict rule: only his name can appear on the ballot. Even though Miller clearly states that if he is elected, his custom robot will make all the decisions.
