The Red Sea New City is located on the coast of the Red Sea in western Saudi Arabia and is one of the key projects in Saudi Arabia's 2030 Carbon Neutral Vision, which is expected to be completed by 2030. This is a new city built from scratch, with a planned area of 28,000 square kilometers (about 10,800 square miles).

On June 5th, Huawei released a promotional short film City of Tomorrow introducing this project. It is understood that this is the world's first city powered by 100% clean energy, powered by Huawei's largest global optical storage micro-grid power station with a scale of 400 MW photovoltaic + 1.3 GWh energy storage system.

Huawei Digital Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Engineering Co., Ltd. signed the Red Sea New City energy storage project in Saudi Arabia on October 16, 2021.

TapTechNews previously reported that this project is the world's largest off-grid energy storage project for optical storage, and its energy storage system can reach 1.3 GWh. Huawei mainly provides an overall optical storage solution in this project, including a 1300 MWh energy storage system, PCS, communication system and management system, etc. At the same time, Huawei also participates in services such as scheme design, power grid simulation and related design consulting.
