TapTechNews, May 11 - The mass production model of the BYD Formula Leopard 'Leopard 8' has completed its declaration with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Xiong Tianbo, General Manager of Formula Leopard Car Sales, mentioned earlier that the 'Leopard 8' will hit the market in the second half of this year.
Built on BYD’s DMO superhero off-road hybrid platform, the new vehicle will feature the Yun Chuan-P active hydraulic body control system and the 'Eye of God' advanced driver-assistance system.
The vehicle dimensions are as follows: length 5195mm, width 1994mm, and height 1875 (1905)mm, with a wheelbase of 2920mm.
Regarding power, the new model utilizes a special off-road hybrid architecture including a DM-o hybrid system featuring a maximum output of 200kW (272 ps) 2.0T engine and peak power front 200kW/rear 300kW permanent magnet synchronous motors, equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery.
BYD also reports that the new model will be equipped with the Yun Chuan-P intelligent body control system, providing strong extreme water fording capabilities.
Furthermore, the new vehicle is a plug-in hybrid and comes standard with a panoramic sunroof. Available options include roof racks or not, body-colored top cover ornaments, fixed and electric side steps, black logo, tow hook hole and electrical connector, spare tire cover decoration, without streaming media rearview camera, high-gloss black D-pillar, varying color calipers, and decorative strips for electric side steps.
With the roof rack, vehicle height is 1905mm; without it, the height is 1875mm. Opting for electric or fixed side steps does not affect the overall vehicle width. Choosing a tow hook hole and electrical connector alters the approach/departure angles to 30/23 degrees; with the tow hook and electrical connector, they are 30/18 degrees, and this does not affect the vehicle's length, allowing for external recharging.
