Verisign to Raise Wholesale Price of.com Domain Names by 7% on September 1

TapTechNews August 6th news, Verisign company announced this month that it will raise the wholesale price of.com domain names on September 1, from $9.59 (currently about 68 RMB) to $10.26 (currently about 73 RMB), with an increase of 7%.

TapTechNews note:.com domain name registry (Registries) was established in 1985 and is the third registry after.ORG and.NET top-level domains. The registry was initially managed by the US government until 1993 when the management rights were handed over to VeriSign company.

At present, VeriSign is the operator of the.com domain name registry and is responsible for registering and managing.com top-level domains worldwide.

The price increase by VeriSign this time may cause registrars to raise the price of.com domain names. Users who currently hold.com domain names can choose to renew before August to renew for up to 10 years at the current price.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the price of.com domain names has increased by 7%, which is the maximum price increase allowed by the contract signed by VeriSign with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers and the agreement reached with the US government.

In short, since four years ago, VeriSign has increased the wholesale cost of.com domain names by 31%; for domain name registrants, the good news is that VeriSign is not allowed to raise prices in the next two years, but after that the company can raise prices by 7% every year for four consecutive years.
