Kioxia's K2 Plant in Japan Completed and Set to Operate in 2025

TapTechNews August 1st news, Kioxia announced that the K2 manufacturing building (Fab2) of its Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan plant has been completed in July and is planned to be put into operation in the autumn of 2025.

Kioxia started to build the K2 building in March 2022, and it was expected that this plant could be completed within 2023. However, during the construction process, the overall NAND flash memory industry encountered a long downturn, and the construction progress of K2 also slowed down accordingly.

Kioxia plans to use 242.9 billion yen (TapTechNews note: currently about 11.674 billion Chinese yuan) of the subsidy provided by the Japanese government partially for equipment investment in the K2 plant. The Japanese media Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun said on July 30 that the equipment delivery of K2 is expected to start in September.

In addition, starting from November 2024, some of Kioxia's administrative and engineering teams will move into the new administrative building adjacent to K2 and started construction at the same time as K2 to prepare for the official operation of the K2 plant.

According to previous reports, the K2 plant is expected to mass-produce the most advanced BiCS8 flash memory of the Kioxia-Western Digital Alliance in the future.
