China Telecom's 5G-A Plan and 6G Innovation at MWC2024 Shanghai

At the same time, China Telecom also released The White Paper on 5G+Beidou Spatio-Temporal System Empowering High-Quality Development of the Digital Economy, The White Paper on Air-Ground Integrated 5G Enhanced Low-Altitude Network, and The White Paper on Mobility Management Technology for Star-Ground Heterogeneous Networks.
TapTechNews note: 5G-A is fully known as 5G-Advanced, also known as 5.5G, which is the technological evolution of 5G. Compared with 5G, it can achieve significant improvements in capacity, rate, delay, positioning, reliability and other aspects.
The first standard version of 5G-A, 3GPP Rel-18, was officially frozen in Shanghai on June 18 this year. This is a milestone event in the development of the 5G industry, marking the beginning of the commercial year of 5G-A in 2024.
China Telecom's 5G-A action plan focuses on deepening practical exploration in three aspects: capacity building, ecological cooperation, and application implementation.
In terms of capacity building, China Telecom will build 8 core 5G-A capabilities to achieve higher-speed data capabilities, more diverse connection methods, and comprehensive support of more endogenous characteristics to meet the diverse business needs in the future.
In terms of ecological cooperation, in-depth cooperation will be carried out in six 5G-A key fields such as terminal, satellite, Internet of Things, and low altitude, and jointly carry out new technology standard setting, technical verification pilots, and application commercial promotion with partners.
In terms of application landing, nine 5G-A applications are launched: providing solutions such as highly reliable remote control, high-precision data collection, and low-cost ubiquitous Internet of Things for industry customers such as low-altitude economy, manufacturing, energy, and warehousing; meeting the new scene requirements of individual customers for higher speed and lower latency. In addition, China Telecom will also provide new application experiences of integrated sensing and communication, and comprehensive coverage of air-space-ground.
In addition, China Telecom said that it will moderately advance the layout and continuously promote 6G technological innovation, and conduct technological research in key fields such as new network architecture, integrated air-ground, and integrated sensing and communication together with industrial partners to achieve systematic results. Facing the future, China Telecom will accelerate the research on 6G network architecture and standards and actively seize the commanding heights in scientific and technological competition and future development.
