General Motors to Temporarily Lay Off Workers in Kansas Assembly Plant

TapTechNews September 22nd news, according to Bloomberg's report today, General Motors has announced that it will temporarily lay off two-thirds of the workers at the Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas, USA.

General Motors stated in a statement: General Motors is investing approximately $390 million (TapTechNews note: currently about 2.75 billion Chinese yuan) at the Fairfax Assembly Plant to increase the production of the new Chevrolet BoltEV. In order to facilitate the installation of new tools, employees will be temporarily laid off until production resumes in mid-2025.

According to another report by AutomotiveNews citing a document submitted by General Motors to Kansas, a total of 1695 people are laid off this time. The first round of the two rounds of layoffs will begin on November 18th, including the temporary layoff of 686 full-time employees and the dismissal of 250 temporary employees. The second round of layoffs will begin on January 12th next year and will temporarily lay off 759 full-time workers.

In August this year, General Motors also laid off more than 1000 salaried employees in the global software and services department.
