Samsung to Mass Produce 64TB QLC Server SSD in 2024Q4, Expand Product Line

TapTechNews August 9th news, according to the verbatim transcript of Samsung Electronics' second-quarter earnings conference call, Samsung executives said that the 64TB capacity QLC server solid-state drive is currently undergoing customer review and will enter the mass production stage in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Samsung Electronics will also add a 128TB solid-state drive to its product line in the fourth quarter to timely respond to the growing demand for high-density QLC solid-state drives.

Samsung Electronics has previously introduced the BM1743 enterprise solid-state drive with 176-layer v7 QLC NAND flash in the technical blog. The capacity of BM1743 can reach 61.44 TB and also has the potential to be further expanded to 122.88 TB.

In terms of durability and performance, the write durability of BM1743 is 0.26 DWPD, and the sequential read and write of the 2.5-inch U.2 version can reach 7200/2000 MB/s, and the random read and write are 1600K/110K IOPS respectively.

Samsung Electronics said that its QLC solid-state drive products currently account for only a little over 10% of the total market portfolio of server solid-state drives, but it has potential in terms of future demand, so Samsung is actively conducting synchronous development of QLC server solid-state drives in technology and business.

TapTechNews noted that Samsung Electronics executives also expected in the earnings conference call that its server solid-state drive revenue performance this year will increase by four times year-on-year.
