Hong Kong Customs Optimizes Payment Function and Updates on Transport Payment and Duty-Free Quota

TapTechNews September 16th news, according to the report of the Great Bay Area Voice of China Central Radio and Television Station, starting from today (16th), the Hong Kong Customs has optimized the payment function of the electronic cash register at various immigration control points. In addition to being able to continue to pay in cash, Octopus, EPS and FPS (Fast Payment System), citizens and tourists can also pay through the newly added mainland electronic wallets, including WeChat Pay, Alipay or UnionPay QuickPass.

In addition, the designated gates of the heavy rail network of the Hong Kong MTR (TapTechNews note: except for the Airport Express stations) have supported UnionPay QuickPass since August 24, 2024. UnionPay payment services have covered the local and cross-border transportation systems in Hong Kong and Macau. Currently, local major means of transportation such as KMB,城巴, Long Win Bus, trams and Macau public buses, as well as cross-border transportation such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail, Shenzhen-Hong Kong cross-border buses, and Hong Kong-Macau jetfoils have all supported UnionPay.

Since August 1st, the duty-free quota for residents and tourists entering from Hong Kong and Macau to carry luggage and personal items has been raised to 12,000 yuan. This measure was first implemented at six ports including Luohu, Futian, Shenzhen Bay, West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail, Gongbei, and the Zhuhai Highway of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge on July 1st. Since August 1st, this measure has been extended to all entry ports except the 'first line' port of Hengqin.
