According to the indictment (case number 5:24-cv-03454-SVK), through its law firm Latham & Watkins LLP, Yangtze Memory said that StrandConsult and Layton published several untrue reports on their operated website, maliciously smearing Yangtze Memory and its products, seriously damaging the company's reputation.

Yangtze Memory indicated that an article on the website claimed that Yangtze Memory's chips might steal data and transmit it to Beijing, and would endanger the security and privacy of iPhone users. Yangtze Memory stated that memory chips can only store data and cannot execute code or communicate wirelessly.

In another article on the website, it claimed that Apple's cooperation with Yangtze Memory might lead to the exit of non-Chinese semiconductor manufacturers and called on Apple to terminate its cooperation with Yangtze Memory and switch to purchasing products from suppliers such as Micron instead.

According to Yangtze Memory's investigation, StrandConsult received financial support from Micron, and Micron is one of Yangtze Memory's main competitors in the global 3D NAND market. Micron attempts to suppress competitors through improper means to maintain its market position.

As TapTechNews previously reported, in November 2023, Yangtze Memory filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Micron and its subsidiaries, requesting the court to ban Micron from continuing to use multiple 3D NAND technology patents of Yangtze Memory and compensate for losses and litigation expenses.

Yangtze Memory claimed that multiple solid-state drive products of Micron were suspected of infringing 8 patents of Yangtze Memory, which involve aspects such as the formation method, control method, through-array contact (TAC), reading method, and multi-layer stacking method of 3D NAND memory.
