OpenAI Considers Changing Governance Structure

According to TapTechNews on June 17th, citing informed sources from The Information last Friday, OpenAI's CEO Altman told some shareholders that the company is considering changing its governance structure and the non-profit board will not control the for-profit business.

Altman indicated that one of the plans being considered by the board is to establish a for-profit company. The report mentioned that this transformation may open the door for OpenAI to eventually go public for the first time, and currently OpenAI is valued at 86 billion US dollars (TapTechNews note: currently about 625.722 billion yuan).

Last Saturday local time, when OpenAI replied to Reuters' inquiries about the report, it stated, 'We remain focused on building artificial intelligence that benefits everyone. The non-profit is at the core of our mission and will continue to exist.'

This is the second time The Information mentioned the news about OpenAI's 'trategy change'. The media had disclosed in last month's report that the reason why Altman has this idea is that the company needs to provide incentive measures for investors to attract a large amount of funds. If the company does not have a for-profit nature, it cannot provide incentive measures for investors, and thus cannot achieve the expected goal of 'attracting 100 billion US dollars (currently about 726 billion yuan).'
