In October last year, Apple released the MacBook Pro and iMac with M3 chips. The new MacBook Pro offers a Space Black color option and launched a cheaper entry-level model, replacing the previous 13-inch MacBook Pro (with Touch Bar). The 24-inch iMac basically remains the same, but the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard included still use the Lightning interface and have not been upgraded to USB-C.

According to Gurman, the main upgrade points of the new MacBook Pro and iMac to be launched this autumn are the M4 chips, and there won't be much change in other aspects. The M4 chip made its first appearance in the iPad Pro in May, and currently no Mac models are equipped with this new chip.

Gurman also said that Mac mini will also get an update this year. Unlike other product lines, Mac mini skipped the M3 chip, and the previous generation was released in January 2023, with the main upgrade point being the introduction of models with M2Pro chips.

TapTechNews noticed that in this leak, Gurman mentioned an interesting detail: Although the M4 chip upgrade will enhance the performance of most Mac products, but at least one model will see a more significant change.

Since Apple switched to self-developed chips, most Mac products have been redesigned, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac, and currently only Mac Pro and Mac mini remain in the original design.

The last update of Mac Pro was in 2023, following the design of the 2019 Mac Pro. Considering that the 2019 Mac Pro emphasizes modularity and upgradability, and the Apple Silicon limits these features, this decision has caused quite a bit of controversy. Obviously, the chassis of the 2019 Mac Pro is not suitable for the Apple Silicon chip, and its internal space utilization is not high.

As for Mac mini, its design has hardly changed since 2010, except for removing the DVD drive and replacing some ports, but it still maintains the shape of a 7.7-inch aluminum cube.

The major change mentioned by Gurman is likely to occur on Mac Pro or Mac mini, but other possibilities are not excluded. After all, the last redesign of the MacBook Pro was four years ago, and Apple usually redesigns this series of notebooks every four to five years.
