3D New Work of Double Dragon Series, Double Dragon Returns, Announced for 2025 Release

TapTechNews July 11th news, Arc System Works Asia Branch announced the先导预告 (trailer) of the 3D new work of the Double Dragon series, Double Dragon Returns. This game is expected to be released in 2025 and will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam) platforms.

Double Dragon Returns is a side-scrolling action game. The game uses 3D graphic technology to reproduce the characters' personalities in the arcade golden age. Not only the main characters, the Li brothers, but also the powerful enemies that have competed with them in previous generations also appear.

TapTechNews found that Double Dragon is an arcade video game series developed by Technōs Japan. It was very popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. As a side-scrolling action game, it was very popular in Europe and America. The first work was released on arcade platforms in June 1987.

After the bankruptcy of Technōs Japan, the copyright was purchased by the Million company founded by the original development team. Now it is held by Arc System Works and continues to be developed and produced (Arc System Works, before changing its name, Arc once developed and ported the first work of the series to the Sega MasterSystem platform in 1988).

Because the developers of the Double Dragon series are fans of Bruce Lee (including the series' main creator Kishimoto Hisashi), so the shadow of Bruce Lee and Jeet Kune Do can be seen in the settings. For example, the two main characters are called Billy Lee (Billy Lee) and Jimmy Lee (Jimmy Lee), and Bruce Lee's English name is Bruce Lee.

Billy and Jimmy are twin brothers who run martial arts dojos and are highly skilled in martial arts.
