Qualcomm's Windows Laptop Initiative and Future Outlook

TapTechNews June 8th news, at the just-ended 2024 Computex Taipei, Qualcomm, in collaboration with partners such as Microsoft, Dell, and ASUS, released a series of Windows laptops powered by Snapdragon processors.

Even though this has already brought a lot of surprises, it seems that Qualcomm is also prepared to bring more surprises in the remaining time of 2024.

Winfuture reports that Microsoft and Qualcomm are set to bring the first batch of the new generation of Windows on Arm models with Windows 11 to the market from June 18th, including a total of 20 models from 7 manufacturers and Surface Pro 11.

Representatives from Qualcomm stated that major OEMs plan to release the second wave of Snapdragon X products in August and September this year (TapTechNews note: coinciding with the Win11 24H2 update). Just like the recently released batch of models, the new machines to be launched in the second batch will also be equipped with Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors.

In contrast to the first batch of products, the representatives from Qualcomm said that the second wave of products will be more focused on the commercial market. This makes sense as capturing the enterprise market can bring a much larger profit margin.

Also, as most enterprise-oriented applications natively support the Arm architecture, this may also help fuel the wave of Arm devices replacing traditional x86 machines. However, for games, video editing, and other consumer scenarios, native Arm-supported software may still be relatively lacking.

Qualcomm stated that with the arrival of the second wave of the release tide, the industry will turn its attention to other form factors of devices besides laptops, such as Microsoft and other OEMs may launch some mini PCs and AIO all-in-ones equipped with Snapdragon X processors at this time, and the future of Windows on Arm ecosystem can be said to be very bright.
