IBM in China Closed R & D and Test Position Employees' Access Rights, About a Thousand Affected

TapTechNews August 24th news, according to Interface News, several IBM China employees said that the company closed the access rights of IBM China R & D and test position employees on Friday evening (last night). A laboratory technical employee said that before the closure of the rights, the company's employees went to and from work normally, without any omen or signal, and some technical employees were still in overtime state.

At present, these employees have been removed from the product group of the communication software and cannot log in to the company intranet through VPN, but can still access the mail. It is reported that IBM China has multiple branch companies, and the employees whose rights have been taken back this time belong to IBMV, including CDL (IBM China Development Center) and CSL (IBM China System Center), which are mainly responsible for R & D and testing.

The above-mentioned employees said that according to their understanding, the rights of R & D and test position employees in Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and other places across the country have all been taken back, involving about more than a thousand people; the after-sales and consulting departments still hold the access rights normally. Employees still don't know the reason why the company did this. The latest news at present is that the company has informed the employees whose rights have been taken back to have a talk next Monday and participate in the online conference.

And two days ago (August 22nd), Chen Xudong, the chairman and general manager of IBM Greater China, said in an interview with China Business News that the company is optimistic about the growth space of IBM's AI business in China.

Based on TapTechNews' previous reports, IBM's second-quarter results report data shows that the total revenue is 15.8 billion US dollars (TapTechNews note: currently about 112.676 billion yuan), an increase of 2% year-on-year and 4% in terms of constant currency. And in March this year, IBM carried out a round of layoffs overseas, and the marketing and communication departments became the hardest hit areas.

In December last year, IBM's chief executive officer Arvind Krishna announced that the company is vigorously enhancing the AI skills of all employees. Previously, the company had announced plans to replace nearly 8,000 positions with AI. In January 2023, IBM said in an earnings call that it will lay off 3,900 people.
