NIO's Stance on Range-Extended Models and Production Updates

TapTechNews September 20th news, after the launch event of LeDao L60, Li Bin, the founder, chairman and CEO of NIO, and Ai Tiecheng, senior vice president of NIO and president of LeDao Automobile, accepted media interviews.

When asked if NIO will consider launching a range-extended model, Li Bin replied, Range-extended and plug-in hybrids are indeed selling relatively well now, and I think it's normal. From the perspective of NIO and LeDao, we still adhere to (the battery swap mode). We will discuss it when Tesla makes a range-extended model. If we make a comparison, just imagine that a shared power bank is more efficient, and not everyone has to carry a power bank. (NIO's) replaceable and upgradable is actually also a more efficient range-extended.

Li Bin also said that now the growth of range-extended vehicles is more vigorous than that of pure electric vehicles, and it is also understandable that brands such as Xiaomi, XPeng and Huawei make range-extended models.

According to TapTechNews' earlier report today, Li Bin also talked about production capacity and the recent acquiring Audi's Belgian factory related rumors in the interview. He said, There is no such thing. We have not contacted Audi. He also joked that if Audi can't afford to maintain the factory, NIO can't afford it even more. Currently, the LeDao L60 has been sold out, with a production capacity of 5,000 units in October, 10,000 units in December, at least 16,000 units in January next year, and 20,000 units in March next year.
