Sony Considers Applying Generative AI in Film Production

TapTechNews June 2nd, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures' chief executive Tony Vinciquerra said in an investors' meeting on Thursday local time that the company attaches great importance to generative AI and is considering using this technology in the film production process to simplify the production process.

Tony Vinciquerra said, 'We will study how to use AI to produce movies for cinemas and television in a more efficient way.' Currently, text-to-video models such as OpenAI's Sora have caused anxiety in Hollywood, as these tools may reduce the working capabilities of crew members and talents.

It is reported that Tony Vinciquerra's statement shows that film studios are still seeking to further deploy technologies such as generative AI, but the limitations come from the contracts signed with the unions.

TapTechNews has learned that Sony has released an official statement today, mainly describing the advantages or future plans that Sony will bring by targeting the AI field as follows:

Cost reduction: The main motivation for using AI is to seek higher production efficiency to deal with the growing costs that plague the industry.

Promising applications: Tony Vinciquerra envisioned multiple AI applications, from analyzing scripts and scenarios to optimizing locations and visual effects.

Negotiations and agreements: Tony Vinciquerra mentioned the recent agreements reached with unions such as IATSE and Teamsters, emphasizing that AI will be the key point in future negotiations.
