The China Ocean 83 voyage carried a total of 81 scientific research team members and crew members. It set sail from Qingdao on December 17 last year and successively carried out investigation operations in the Indian Ocean, the South Atlantic Ocean, and the North Atlantic Ocean. It lasted for 164 days and the total voyage was about 35,300 miles. It successfully carried out 46 manned deep-sea submersible operations.

According to the DaZhong Daily, Xu Xuewei, deputy director of the National Deep Sea Base Management Center and the temporary Party branch secretary of the China Ocean 83 voyage, said: "The North Atlantic Ocean is traditionally the 'back garden' of European and American scientific research. We seldom had the opportunity to go there in the past. The China Ocean 83 voyage expands China's manned deep-sea investigation from the 'two oceans and one sea' (TapTechNews note: the Western Pacific Ocean, the South China Sea, and the Indian Ocean) to the Atlantic Ocean, realizing a new expansion of China's ocean work layout."
