Samsung Electronics Union's Strike Update Call to Return to Work and Long-Term Stage

TapTechNews August 2nd, Yonhap News Agency reported that the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) of South Korea announced on its YouTube channel, calling on its 31,000 members to immediately return to work and turn the strike into a long-term stage by next Monday. NSEU is the largest union of Samsung Electronics, with more than 30,000 members, accounting for about 24% of the total number of Samsung's employees in South Korea.

NSEU demands a 5.6% increase in the basic salary for all members, guarantees vacation on the union's founding day, and compensates for the economic losses caused by the strike, but the two sides failed to reach an agreement and the final negotiation broke down.

NSEU said: We need to transform the way of struggle while continuing to put pressure on the management to reduce the economic burden on union members. Due to the breakdown of the final negotiation, the strike has entered a long-term stage, and we will advance through surprise strikes and compliance actions to ensure the success of the ongoing efforts.

NSEU held a press conference in front of Lee Jae-yong's private residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul yesterday, demanding that Lee Jae-yong come forward to express his stance and solve the strike situation, but Lee Jae-yong was on a business trip in Europe and was not at home at that time.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, this strike started on July 8th and became an indefinite strike since July 10th. Samsung Electronics emphasized in this week's earnings conference call that the ongoing strike has little impact on the company's production and will do its best to resolve the dispute as soon as possible.
